Internship at Benne SA and Amen
First week
On Saturday, 29th of August, 2009 we went from Munich to Toulouse by plane.
Our supervisors (Mr. and Mrs. Huber and Mr. and Mrs. Kaissl) and Elisabeth
and Kurt van Driel were already waiting for us there. Toulouse is about
an hour’s drive from Castres where we were taken by the school van.
There we got to know our partner school Lycèe Sidobre and
its headmaster too. Afterwards we saw our accommodation
for the very first time.

It was a mobile home at the Gourjarde campsite.
We liked our new home a lot, because it was very well furnished.
Our neighbors never stayed for a long time, but they were always
very pleasant to us. Because of this housing we learned how to keep
house and to deal with problems everyday life brings along.

Our supervisors stayed with us until Tuesday morning

On Sunday we made a trip together.

The former headmaster took us to the neighboring town of Mazamet,
which was once a very rich city and also to the Black Mountains,
from where you have a fantastic view on the landscape.
He also took us to a medieval village that
was very impressing because of its narrow alleys.
The headmaster narrated about many interesting background information.
The work
On Monday began our four-week internship
Lisa and Peter at Benne SA
|
On Monday we were accompanied by Mrs. Huber and Mr. Kaissl
to our working place, where we had to go by bike every single day.
At the beginning we were offered a guided tour through the company.
In the afternoon they explained us the laser. The following days
we mainly worked with Patrick and Pascal. We especially learned
gas shielded arc welding, which we were allowed to work on our own
most of the time. The work was always very diversified. We usually
spent our breaks together with our French colleagues and tried to
communicate with them as well as possible.
The longer we were in France, the better we understood.
Hence we learned very important words easily.
Everybody was very friendly and open minded and they always
supported us in a very energetic way. The last four days we were
allowed to work at the engineering office, where we learned
the basics of ProE.

Especially Patrick and Pascal taught us a lot.
Hereby we would like to express our sincere
thanks to the company Benne SA for everything they did for us |

Roman and Stefan by Amen
On our first day at the company Amen we already knew, that this would
be a good time, because our first meeting with the boss was at 2 p.m.
so we were able to sleep considerably long. The next day we were friendly
received by our new colleagues and separated. Stefan was coached by Arnaud
und Roman by Fernand. On that day Stefan tried WIG welding the first time
and also Roman was instructed to it the next days. But these weren’t our
only activities, we painted tubes, we helped to build up a new slide in
the indoor swimming pool, we cut a table plate, we ground, we bended,
we cut laminations and did a lot of errands.
Two hours of lunch break and a free Friday afternoon
we let ourselves go at home. Because we were not the first trainees,
the workers at Amen accustomed to us very fast and we were introduced
to the working process. The many different and entertaining personalities,
who all gathered at Amen’s, make you smile and I would recommend
everyone to work there, who has the chance.
Second weekend
|
At the second weekend we made a fact-finding tour through the city.
Castres is a city with 43 000 inhabitants in the south of France.
This region is known for its textile industry
and for a fabulous wine (Gaillac).
Sights are among other things Saint-Benoit cathedral,
Jean-Jaurès square, the beautiful old town
and the refurbished buildings on the river Agout.
Jean-Jaurès was a famous Socialist politician.
In Castres there is also a museum, where you get to know
a lot of details about his life. |

|
Miredames is a boat offering you a boat trip
down the Agout right through the city.
Further there are many sports facilities in Castres
like a huge swimming pool (l’Archipel), a golf court at the Gourjade
square and also a bowling stadium.
Castres is definitely a city that has something to
offer for each taste.

Third weekend
At the third weekend we were invited by Elisabeth und Kurt
in their appartment on the sea, which is in Cap d’Agde.
Cap d’Agde is a very nice place for tourism.
We could even go swimming in the sea, because the water was still warm.

On Saturday evening we were invited to a French dinner, which blew our minds.
Especially the fish-and mussels specialties were at their finest.
We all really enjoyed this weekend, because it was just like
being on holiday. Unfortunately it passed by way too quickly.
Last weekend
At the last weekend we got to know something about the
night life of Castres. Therefore we took a night bus to a
disco called Roll’s, which is about 20 km from Castres.
There we met lots of young people who were of the same age as
we and it turned out as a very funny evening.

Unfortunately this month passed by too quickly and so we came back to Austria
on the 26th of September.
Appreciation
We definitely can recommend this internship, because we made
so many new experiences and we also had lots of fun, too.
We would also like to say thank you to Elisabeth and Kurt
for their enormous support. Without these two people we
probably wouldn’t have survived in France.
They even gave us their private bicycles after our bicycles broke down.
Further we want to say thank you to all those people
who enabled this internship.
Especially to Ms. Huber, because without her
commitment Castres probably would have fallen through.
