Internship at Ro-Ra Production in Tralee, Ireland 2003
Philipp Eder (5WIB)
I was very happy about the unique chance I was given this summerto do an internship
at RoRa in Ireland from June 29th to July 27th.
After meeting Roland Lube, an employee at RoRa, at Attnang-Puchheim railway station on
June 29, we went to Munich by train. At Munich airport we flew to Kerry via Dublin.
In Kerry Mr. Lube took me to Mrs. Field, where I stayed for the following four weeks.
During the first week of my stay I assisted Mr Lube with renewing the quality management
system. In our free time we did a lot of sightseeing. Being an insider, Mr Lube took me to
the popular windmill, the fantastic beach, the marvelous city park and the impressive aquadome.
On weekends I either watched TV or went downtown to meet people of my age. Actually
it was not difficult at all to get admission to the various Irish pubs, which I
enjoyed very much.
Of course, I had a lot of discussions about national stereotypes, prejudices and
habits in Austria and Ireland. One highlight undoubtedly was the Celtic football game
I was taken to by my employers: Limerick lost against Kerry.
I spent the rest of my internship doing jobs on the assembly line or repairing computers.
After saying farewell to my new friends, I went back home on July 27. The flight turned
out to be very exciting because of turbulences due to a storm in Munich. Nevertheless I got
home safe and sound.
Kerry was worth the journey. I would recommend doing an internship to every student.
Going abroad really broadened my horizon.
My special thanks go to Mr. Anton Pixner for coordinating this program.
