Tralee
Tralee is the name of the town where I lived. With about 30,000 citizens it’s the second biggest
town in county Kerry. Compared to big Austrian towns the buildings are not very high.

During my internship I lived with the parents of Garry Field, executive producer of RO-RA Ireland.
They have a little house in Fountain Court.

The company RO-RA, providing the internship, is staffed by approximately 50
people at four different locations of the plants:
- Attnang-Puchheim in Austria
- Piding in Germany
- Tralee in Ireland
- Castelli Calepio in Italy
I got the chance to work in Tralee, where in the first week my main job was to
operate an ENGEL injection moulding machine. Later on, some other workers
showed me how to drive a forklift, so I worked in the storage room lots of times.
In the second week I started my main task: the reparation of a database for
rubber compounds. This project was started by two students of the HTBLA
Vöcklabruck some time ago, but the technologies which have been used were
out of date since then. It also included some fatal errors like 200 – 300
rows of HTML code were displayed with just one “echo” function. Therefore
I decided to program a new application and not to repair the old one. Instead
of cookies I used sessions. In addition I decided to work without a frameset.
The data model is very complicated so I had to change it many times to be
capable of programming all needed functions. Moreover I replaced the outdated
Xitami with an Apache web server.
Special thanks to Ing. Roland Lube and DI Gernot Weissensteiner for coordination my
internship and giving me a great experience.
